Powder Puff Football 2011 page 1
After weeks of practice, the Classical Senior Girls hovered over a cell phone in the team locker room at Manning Field yesterday. On the other end of the phone was Coach Jay Alicudo, encouraging the team to do their best, play fair, and enjoy the game. Although he has led the Powder Puff Team for a number of years, he recently became ill and could not attend.
After the call finished, Coaches Bartlett, Reynolds, and Smith stated " Let's do it for Jay". That became the theme of the day. Everyone wore Coach Alicudo's #85 on their uniforms.
What did the Senior Girls learn from this short season? First, they got to know each other better outside of the LCHS building. Second, they learned that playing football is not just bash and smash but a game of strategy. Third, they learned that a mutual goal brings people closer together. And last, they learned that a game is just a game. (Afterwards, both teams got together for a pizza party.)
