Classical Students Take on New York City Though rain challenged Ms. Griffin's class throughout the day, we enthusiastically traveled throughout New York City taking in the sights and enjoying the day. First stop was the World Trade Center where we observed the construction of the World Trade Center Memorial in honor of over 2,000 victims of the terrorist attack on the Twin Towers on September 11, 2001. Students were given a tour of the current building that houses photos and lists of the individuals lost in this horrific tragedy. They watched documentaries of families and friend describing their last contacts with their loved ones. We also watched a video of plans for the new Memorial with expressions of hope from many who were interviewed. |

We then proceeded to the Rockefeller Center and the NBC Studio building where we watched a video about the creation of Radio City Music Hell, the Rockettes, and the "Top of the Rock". We then entered the elevator where we proceeded to the 70th floor (the Top of the Rock) The view of the entire City was spectacular.

We returned to Times Square where small groups ventured to their chosen stores for shopping adventures. Several students and teachers enjoyed riding on the Ferris Wheel in the middle of the ToysRUs Store. Fun was had by all. Everyone had a chance to improve New York's economy.

Lunchtime brought us to the Hard Rock Cafe. Everyone enjoyed dining and viewing the memorabilia donated by many rock stars.]

We are grateful for the support of Mr. White, Ms Wortman and the students and faculty who supported our Pastelito and Bake Sales. We couldn't have done it without you and thank you for helping us experience a "Trip of a Lifetime."
Thanks to Ms. Griffin for the story and photos.
