Classical Opens Manning Bowl with a Bang

It is Friday night, 6:30pm, at the new Manning Bowl. The grass on the field is perfectly manicured green grass. Standing on the field feels like a new soft lawn. The new lights make it seem like a  summer's day without a cloud in the sky.  But look closer, and the grass is actually the newest kind of synthetic turf. The soft foam packing underneath will save many a player from acute injury. The new scoreboard is awesome.

But when you looks outside the field and oval track surrounding it, you see a row of portable toilets. The refreshment stand is just a couple of tables with an umbrella. The stadium seating is just temporary metal with a capacity of only 750 fans.

But all this doesn't really matter. We are here to see Classical's first football game in the new stadium. The football team is geared up to make this first game at our new home field a winning one. By game time, the fans overflow the stands to the fences around the field.

The game was hard-fought, but Classical easily overran Revere in the first half. Mike Quintana's passes were long and straight. Rich Dellapozza, Quivari Jackson, Chad Quintana, Tony Johnson, Frank Webley, and the rest of the offense were big and strong all night. The defense wall was strong and forced numerous turnovers throughout the game.

Final score: Lynn Classical 46, Revere 20

L Rick Dellazoppa 1 run (Quivari Jackson rush)

L Tony Johnson 13 pass from Mike Quintana (rush failed)

L Safety L Jackson 48 pass from M. Quintana (Dellazoppa rush)

L Dellazoppa 20 run (Chad Quintana rush) L C. Quintana 1 run (Brydyn Primus rush)

R Prince Maseza 5 run (pass failed)

L Frank Wesley 70 run (rush failed)

R Steve Ennamorati 12 run (Jim Falzarano pass from Ennamorati)

The new scoreboard is big and bold.
