Jazz Ensemble Rocks the Auditorium
Teachers got an email early Tuesday with an invitation from Classical Music Director Michael Smith. "To Kick off JAZZ AWARENESS MONTH, the jazz band class that meets B period is having a kickoff concert today during B period in the auditorium. Any teacher that wants to bring down a class or just wants to stop by and take in a short concert is welcome." Over 300 students and teachers showed up.
Welcome and privileged we were, because this band rocked the auditorium. Selections from John Coltrane, Chick Corea, Wes Montgomery, Miles Davis, plus a number of outstanding music pieces were played. The audience applauded their approval at the end of each piece. There was a lot of improvisation going on during the songs as each musician got to do solo riffs. One song was a new collaboration by the Traveling Riverside Band, a professional group including Steve, Alex, and Erik.
Andrew Scanlon on Alto Saxophone Erik Lawless on Drums
Alex Ritterhouse on Guitar and Blues Harp Dimitros Pelikudos on Alto Saxophone

...and Cara Gilligan on Piano
Angelica Carey joined the Ensemble for a smooth song.
