Classical Whips Gloucester !

Reported by #80, Ben Smith

On the last night of September, 2005, the Lynn Classical Rams departed on a business trip.  After returning the previous week from a game in Martha’s Vineyard, the Rams were 3-0 and ready to increase it to 4-0.

The Gloucester Fishermen have a history of being a powerhouse against Lynn Classical, as well as a reigning streak of 30 consecutive victories in the Newell Stadium against the last 30 opponents.  Against Classical, the Fishermen have had 15 straight years of heartbreaking wins.  To the Rams, it was time for a change.

At 7 o’clock, the ball was kicked off to the Rams and the game was underway.  Both teams scored on the opening drive, and it was obvious that the defense must step up.  By half time, the Rams were up, desperate to keep it that way, and eager to seal the deal.

In the second half, the Fishermen received the kick, and came to play the hardest second half of football that they’ve had.  In the fourth quarter, the Fishermen had control of the ball, and momentum of the crowd following two 15 yard  penalties against the Rams, as well as a 5 yard penalty added on.  Inside the Red Zone, the Fishermen were first and goal.  If scored, Gloucester could make the score 25-21 in the favor of Classical, onside kick it and possibly grab control of the ball again.  With this in mind, the Ram Defense answered the bell, shut the high-powered offense down, and began a new drive on offense.  With not much time left in the game, the Rams drove the ball to about half field and took a knee to let the clock run out.  The Rams had won for the first time in 15 years, and had ended the Gloucester 30 home-game winning streak.

Next week will be the real test for the Rams, on October 7th, when they go against the undefeated Falcons of Danvers High School…

The evening started with some pre-game practice.

As the sun beautifully sets, the stadium lights come on.

The coin is flipped and Classical will receive first.

The Coach and the QB conference just before the 2nd score.

A great way to go into half-time.

Thanks to the loyal fans, friends, and relatives who joined us for the exciting evening.
