Emily Driscoll, Artist and Teacher, Daughter of Attorney David and LCHS English Teacher Roseanne Driscoll, Passes Away
LYNN - Miss Emily Anne Driscoll 24, of Brooklyn, New York and Lynn, Ma, a
distinguished artist passed away unexpectedly as a result of a motor vehicle
incident.
Born in Salem, she was the beloved daughter of Atty David F. and Rosanne (Benedetto)
Driscoll of Lynn. She was raised in Lynn, receiving her early childhood
education at St. Pius V School. She attended Lynn Classical for a year prior to
matriculating on to Bishop Fenwick High School where she excelled both in and
out of the class room. Emily was an outstanding athlete, having excelled in
basketball and soccer while at Fenwick. Emily continued her education at and
athletic competition at Williams College in Williamstown, Ma. Emily’s true
talent and fervor came to the forefront while in college. In addition to her
exceptional play on the soccer pitch, she was known more for her real passion,
Art, of which she was highly accomplished. She earned a dual B.A. in Visual Arts
and American Studies, class of 2005, where among her academic accomplishments
she was awarded the highest honors distinction for her visual art thesis. At her
Williams graduation Emily was honored with the receipt of the Hubbard Hutchinson
Fellowship which charged her to go out and “make art”...which she did with
care and passion. Emily also studied at the Tyler Art School, Temple University
in Rome Italy, where she nurtured her love for the Italian language which she
spoke fluently and a zest for travel.
Emily’s passion for art, which became her lifetime vocation, brought her
recognition and various awards in addition to the Hutchinson Memorial
Fellowship, she was awarded the Berkshire Art Association Fellowship, both in
2005. She was a well known artist, having gallery exhibitions in Boston, North
Adams, Providence, Kansas City, Manhattan and Brooklyn. With all of her success,
Emily yearned for her own studio, which along with her partner, Walker Waugh,
was completed in February 2007. WORK Project Space and Gallery, located in
Brooklyn, NY, allowed other artists to show their work. Emily ran the business
in all capacities, from curator to director, to networking, to collaborate,
conceive, organize and realize exhibitions. She loved art so much that early on
in her professional career she taught at the Thurgood Marshall Middle School in
Lynn, where she successfully passed her love for art on to others.
Emily had a love of things new and an unquenchable thirst for knowledge. Emily
strived to satisfy these by traveling extensively throughout Europe and most
recently to India and Nepal, where she spent three weeks in the Himalayas. Emily
used all of her life experience in her art and loved to share with all. Emily
was a loving daughter, sister, niece, cousin and friend who will be deeply
missed by all.
