The Drama Club Preps for the Regional Drama Festival

"Rapunzel Uncut"

Drama Festival 2010!

Article by: Samantha Rossi

The Drama Club really brought on all the laughs at MHSDG's Drama Festival Preliminary Round in Ipswich on Sunday, with their production of Rapunzel Uncut. After countless weeks of practice under Director Ms. Tolley's supervision with assistance from Student-Director Cassandra Murkison, they really showed the seven other schools what it means to have a good laugh. Drama Club received an award from Ipswich High School for "Character development through use of loud noises". Three of the actors received awards for their acting, making them members of the MHSDG All-Star company; Christopher Ellis (Narrator 2) for being the best anti-fairytale storyteller, Martin Francis Nelson (The Prince) for his perfomance as a vain prince, and that amazing high note and Nachelis Cuevas (Rapunzel's Mother) for making everyone want chicken and radishes.

Although not all of the actors received awards, they all deserve to be recognized for something. Samantha Rossi (Rapunzel) for her ability to scream as loud as possible and still talk afterward. Kosta Kourembanas (Rapunzel's Father) for proving that a pregnant woman's word is law and that no man want's to deal with his in-laws. Zachary Culp, Caitlin Mallett and Ashley Ellis (Townspeople) for the best "missing prop" scene ever. Cassandra Murkison (The Witch) for being beautiful, even if Rapunzel claims she isn't and for making us realize that not ALL witches are bad. Chantelle Burns (Narrator 1) for showing Christopher that he really shouldn't contradict people. And Danny Conners (Off Stage Voice) for giving us that one last laugh.

A super special thanks to the Supreme Dictator of ALL things Stage: Tyler Gioachinni and his helpers; Jarrod Macullar, Krista Hogan, Gabby Zucchari and Danny Conners. And a just as super special thanks to our Supreme Mistress of Sound: Cara Garrity and her helpers; Matt Fowler, Savannah Ciani and Alyssia Iaonnou. One great big hug and a round of applause for Ms. Tolley, the greatest director ever. And a huge thank you to all the parents, teachers and friends who showed up on Sunday to support the Drama Club. Also a HUGE congrats to Peabody, Danvers and North Reading as they move on to the semi-finals.

Everyone all together after the first run through at dress rehearsal.
