Classical boys soccer clinches NEC South title

Both teams had something at stake heading into Monday night's Classical-Swampscott boys soccer game at Manning Field. The Rams were looking to win the Northeastern Conference South title for the second straight year and the Big Blue were looking to keep their tournament hopes alive. Although the game ended in a scoreless tie, both teams got what they wanted.

"Both teams were fighting for something," Classical coach
Rob Upton said. "It was a well-played game ... Swampscott (6-4-4) came out and played tough. They came with everything they had."

Classical is 10-3-2 overall, 8-0-1 in the NEC South, with English on tap for Wednesday (5:30).

"The guys put in a lot of hard work this year," Upton said. "To see it pay off with a conference championship is nice."

Sweeper
Kevin Kakou, midfielder Abdoulaye Bah and midfielder Javier Castro all played well for the Rams. Don Gomez was in net for the shutout.
