Classical Student Team may make Millions in
the Stock Market (Game)
April 9th Update -
With only 3 weeks to go in the Northeast Conference Stock Market Challenge, powerhouse Gloucester is currently in first place. However, there has been action on Wall Street as well as on O’Callaghan Way as Junior Nancy Figueroa moved into the top spot among Classical students. Fellow Junior Buddy continues to be in second place for Classical, though they are separated by less than $4,000. At the other end, Senior Paul Strakus has moved out of the cellar and been replaced by Seniors Melissa Goulet and Elis Varanda. Obviously, some of our students need investment advice. Stay tuned for further developments.
March 14th -
The sports teams aren’t the only ones playing in the Northeast Conference. Students in Mrs. Richardson’s Microeconomics class are playing the Stock Market Game against other Northeast Conference high schools.
As of March 19, Buddy Ford was in 6th place out of 83 teams, having recorded gains of $25,690. Sponsored by Detwiler Fenton, a Boston brokerage firm, each student has been given “$500,000” to invest. The game began February 22 and ends April 30.
On March 9, Joe McCourt, Institutional Portfolio Strategist for Bank of America Merrill Lynch, spoke to the class and shared investment strategy plus tips for winning. Pictured here is Mitchell Goldfeld, Senior Vice President of Wealth Management at Detwiler Fenton, sharing his ideas with Classical’s budding investors on March 18.
