Classical Graduation of the Class of 2005
The Class of 2005 graduated this morning, Friday, June 3rd, 2005. There was camaraderie and high spirits all around. The speeches were brief but strong. Mr. Smith and his Classical Choir kept the gymnasium rocking. Phil Whelan, the Class President welcomed everyone to the Commencement. Then Elsadig Elsadig, the Class Salutarian, gave a very moving speech about his four years here. The Mayor of Lynn, Chip Clancy offered his congratulations. James Cowdell, the City Council President reminisced about the differences between the old and the new Classical High School. Superintendent of Schools Nicholas Kostin offered some words of wisdom.
Doug Ruth, Class Secretary, presented a parting gift from the Class of 2005, which was accepted by Ashley Messina, Class of 2006. Valedictorian Bryan Batres spoke about putting in 100% effort for yourself, now and in the future. Rudy Guerine presented gifts to Senior Class Advisors Mrs. Deegan and Mr. Mower. She also presented our beloved and talented Classical Art Teacher, Paulette Langone, a parting gift due to her upcoming retirement. Senior Luis Francis directed the Commencement as Class Marshall. Alberto Rodriguez, the Senior Class Vice-President, gave an introductory speech and biography about our Commencement Speaker.
The Commencement speaker, Mr. Michael Volo, graduated from Classical in 1985. He has had great success in the financial and investment world. Mr. Volo encouraged students to become college graduates also, so they may reap the rewards a college diploma offers.
The Diploma Presentation was presided over by Donna Coppola, John Ford Jr., and Jeffrey Newhall, members of the Lynn School Committee . Principal White completed the Commencement Program by speaking about the great attitude, cooperation, and leadership this Class has shown.
The gymnasium starts to fill up.
