Classical Does Good - Endangered Turtles Go Back to Wild

Our Classical High School family was honored on June 23rd, 2011 by the US Fish and Wildlife Service and the National Wildlife Refuge System. We released 3 of our 4 remaining turtles in and around the Great Meadows National Wildlife Refuge yesterday evening, the fourth is waiting for a radio tag that’s coming in on Monday. That turtle, Kmey, a male, is the largest of all 52 that were raised and released this year by other participating schools in the Concord area.
See attached photos of the plaque we received and a photo of the 2nd and 3rd graders who were also releasing their turtles yesterday, those two turtles started their lives with Classical in September and were transferred to them in November…it was nice to see them again. We also sent 3 other turtles to elementary and middle schools in the Concord area as well…

So, a total of 52 out of 54 turtles were headstarted this year, (one passed during a medical procedure this spring, and one passed due to lack of appetite, and stunted growth, probably due to internal malformation…still waiting on medical necropsy.)
9 of the 52 started or finished with us here at Classical…
Many helped, and made me proud in their dedication in work and funds, most importantly our Environmental Club members, all of my students, and probably some of yours, and our faculty, and friends as well…a real team/family effort!
Thanks to all truly…
