What's so Hard About Making a Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich ?
All you have to do is write out a set of instructions. Mr. Brass's Computer Programming class didn't find it so easy the first time. Some students forgot to say "Spread the peanut butter on one side of the bread" and ended up with the sticky stuff on both sides and on their hands. A few students forgot to stipulate using two slices and ended up with half a sandwich. Many students forgot to say " Put the bread down on a plate" and ended up making the sandwich on their arms. Giving instructions to a computer leaves no room for assumptions or using 'common sense'. The students found this out as they made the sandwiches from their own instructions, word for word. There were a lot of laughs (and cleanup) during this lesson.
