Girls Team Loses to Danvers in MIAA Playoffs
Congratulations to our Girls Team for a fine winning season. We are sorry to say goodbye to our graduating Seniors - Diamond Doe, Ashley Flores, and Dora Malila.
The Game
The Classical fans were not impressed with the Danvers High School Gymnasium. The floors were old, the wooden stands were rough, the lighting in the Gym was dark and dingy. But this was an MIAA Playoff game and none of that mattered. the starting five were psyched and ready to play, although Danvers had beaten us about 5 weeks ago and now was the time to show our better skills.
In the first quarter, our girls showed a lot of hustle and good defense. We ended up ahead 12-10 over Danvers. The fast-paced defense kept Danvers at bay. By halftime, Danvers was ahead by 2 points.
Hannah Byrne has the good move to the basket.
The Danvers bleachers were SRO (Standing Room Only.)
Our bleachers weren't so full.
Tashana shows her classic jumper.
Marina takes the foul shot.
Brianna looks for a pass. Brianna was the team's high scorer with eight points.
By half-time, the score is still very close.
Head Coach Tom Sawyer with Assistants Dennis Baldini and Jay Alicudo prepare the team for second half strategy.
In the 3rd quarter, Danvers shots were going in and our shots were in and out of the rim.
As the game wore on in the fourth quarter, there were no smiles from the Coaches. Brianna Capone had eight points, Diamond Doe and Hannah Byrnes ended up with six points each . Tashanna Brown had four points, and Ashley Flores and Marina Fernandez each had two.
We have a number of returning players next year plus strong JV and Freshmen teams. We look forward to next season.
