Students Win at Politics.... with a Pizza Party

It started as just another assignment in Mr. Harutunian's Senior US Government Honors class last fall. Students could choose to write a 20 page Essay on a branch of government or... volunteer 18 hours or more for a candidate (of their choice) running for public office.  The students investigated candidates running for Congress, State Senate, and State Representative and then contacted the election office they selected. After the election, the candidates documented the students' time worked.

The students say they really enjoyed the time spent volunteering. Just recently, two of the candidates, Congressman John Tierney and State Senator Thomas McGee, decided to hold a Pizza Party for all the Senior Class volunteers. Although this was a private event, not for the newspapers, we were allowed to bring in a camera. Here's what we saw....
