The First Thanksgiving

Students from the ExcELL Club gathered in Ms. Burke’s classroom to experience their first

American Thanksgiving dinner.

The students began by writing a paragraph about everything that they are thankful for,

watching a video on how the tradition of Thanksgiving began, and toasting with apple cider.

Once the food was warm, they feasted on turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing,

cranberry sauce, corn, stuffing, sweet potatoes, rolls, and apple pie.

“I liked the sweet potatoes the best. I liked learning about the history of Thanksgiving too,”

said senior Deyanira Payan Peralta.

Sophomore Tiba Faraj, said “I liked the food, especially the stuffing. I had fun listening to

music and being with friends. I liked how we ate in a big circle and the teachers served us

food. I have never seen anything like this”.

All of the students in attendance were given recipes to make their own homemade stuffing,

and many said they cannot wait to continue this tradition with their own families.
