At Malden, the Rams (1-14) ended their season with a loss.
Classical 4 English 1
The Classical boys
tennis team recorded its first win of the season, defeating English 4-1 at
Classical Tuesday.
"My team was very excited with the win today; it was like they won the
championship," Rams coach Chris Hayward
said.
Winners for Classical (1-13) were: Seng Ly
over Badril Prihantono, first singles (6-0, 6-2); Nick
Gonzalez over Mike Gately, third singles (6-1, 6-1);
Rene Perez and Philip Chea over Kevin Em and
Shivam Patel, first doubles (6-7, 6-4, 6-4); Jonathan
Dorson and Eric Rondeau over Diego Vasquez and Leo Barrios, second
doubles (6-7, 6-4, 6-4). English's (1-11) lone winner was Kerlay Der over
Narith Say, second singles (3-6, 6-4, 6-2).
Peabody 4, Classical 1
At Peabody, the Tanners swept singles with Cody Famiglietti winning 6-0, 6-0, in
the first spot; Mike Warren, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 2, and Dimitri Kritikos, 0-6, 6-0,
6-3, at three. Andrew McCarthy-Cliff McKeon won at first doubles, 6-0, 6-1, for
the Tanners. Classical's lone point came from Jonathan
Dorson-Eric Rondeau, who won second doubles, 6-2, 6-1.
Revere 4, Classical
1
At Classical, the Patriots (5-4) had to survive two three set matches to get the
win. Picking up the points were Nick Mucci in second singles (6-1, 6-1); Pariwat
Chaiwong, third singles (3-6, 6-2, 6-4); Joe Tran-Duong Nguyen at first doubles
(6-4, 6-4) and Nick Tran-Soun Lee in second doubels (6-4, 4-6, 6-4).
Gloucester 5,
Classical 0
At Breed, the Rams (0-9) had a strong match from
Jonathan Dorson and Eric Rondeau, who lost 1-6, 6-7, in second
doubles.
Salem 5, Classical 0
At Breed, Seng Ly dropped a tough three set match in first singles as the Rams
slipped to 0-7.
English outlasts Classical for first win
It
came down to the very end but the Lynn English boys tennis team picked up its
first victory of the season on Friday as Kerlay Der beat Classical's
6, 6-4, 7-6 in
second singles to give the Bulldogs a 3-2 win.
"It was a very good match," English coach Kerry King
said. "It was well played and fortunately we won those one or two points that
let us come out on top."
The Rams (0-6) won the other two singles matches as

defeated
Badril Prihantono, 6-4, 6-1, in first singles and
Nick Gonzalez
was a 6-1, 6-2 winner over
Joe Polonia at third singles.
English (1-3) swept the
doubles as Leo Barrios-Kevin Em beat

7-6, 6-3 at first doubles and Shivam Patel-Diego Vasquez downed
Jimson Tach-Freddie

6-3, 6-1.
Winthrop 4, Classical 1
At Breed, Nick Gonzalez was the only winner for the
Rams. Gonzalez won in third singles, 3-6, 6-1, 6-3.
St.
Mary's 3, Classical 2
At GE Field, the Spartans (1-3) picked up their first win with
points from Dennis Bertocchi at second singles, 6-0, 6-2, Pat Barceleau at third
singles, 6-0, 6-2, and Peter Mai-Dave Deschenes at first doubles, 6-0, 6-2.
The Rams (0-3) pulled out a couple of hard-fought matches with
Seng Ly at first singles, 6-3, 7-5, and
Eric Rondeau-Jonathan Dorson at second doubles,
6-4, 6-4.
Salem 4, Classical 1
At Breed, the Rams picked up their point at third singles where
Nick Gonzalez
won his first varsity match, 6-3, 7-5. The Salem
winners were We'il Sun, first singles, 6-4, 3-6, 6-2; Jorge Barzola, second
singles, 6-2, 6-2; Kevin Lamb-Tahmid Raji, first doubles, 6-1, 6-1, and Max
Covitz-Tyler Madden, second doubles.

Classical boys tennis squeaks by rival English

At Beverly,
Larry Cheung
had a strong performance in a losing effort for the Rams (12-5).
Salem 5, Classical 0
At Breed Middle School, the Rams (2-12) were
swept by the Witches.
St. Mary's 4, Classical 1
At GE Field, the Spartans won their fifth match in a
row. Winning for St. Mary's (9-5) were Dennis Pertochi, first singles (6-2,
6-2); Peter Louvaris, second singles (6-0, 6-0); Grant McKinnon, third singles
(6-0, 6-1); and Connor Janson and Rob Goggin, second doubles (6-0, 6-0).
For Classical, Brian Renderos and Pat
Strong won in first doubles, (6-0, 6-0).
Rams 3 , Revere 2
Classical's boys tennis team won
a pair of battles in the doubles competition to propel itself to its second win
of the season. The Rams defeated Revere 3-2.
"The kids showed a lot of heart today," Classical coach
Chris Hayward
said. "They easily could have given up after losing their
first set. But they earned a nice win."
Peter Rondeau and Alex Messina
took first doubles 4-6, 7-6, 6-2. David
Raymond and Brian Renderos won second doubles 4-6,
7-5, 6-3.
Larry Cheung's
strong play continued in first singles. He won 6-2, 6-1.
"Larry has been great so far for us," said Hayward. "He has been rock-steady."
The Patriots winners came in second singles (Malak Mossadek) and third singles
(Francesco Tartaglia).

Peabody 5, Classical 0
At Lynn, Seng Ly pushed the third singles match to the limit, but fell to
Matt Renon 6-7, 6-7 for the Rams (1-11).
Peter
Rondeau and
Alex Messina
lost a tough first doubles match to Nico DiSalvo and Cliff McKeon 6-2, 2-6, 7-5.
The Tanners (7-5, 6-3 NEC) won all of the other matches in straight sets: Cody
Faniglietti, first singles, 6-1, 6-2; Mike Warren, second singles, 6-1, 6-0; and
Sean McGlone and Vinnie McMahan 7-6
Gloucester 3, Classical

At Lynn, Larry Cheung won the first
singles competition for the Rams (1-10) in impressive fashion: 6-0, 6-1.
Peter Rondeau and Alex Messina
combined to win first doubles 6-2, 6-2.
Swampscott 5, Classical 0
At Swampscott, the Big Blue (6-4, 6-3 Northeastern Conference) winners were:
Val Temin, first singles (6-4, 7-5); Henry Willets, second singles (6-2, 6-0);
Jordan Fine, third singles (6-0, 6-0); Josh Lunder-Sam Cummins, first doubles
(6-1, 6-1); and Jeremy Rosen-Ben Friedman, second doubles (6-1, 6-3).
Saugus 4, Classical 1
At Saugus, the Sachems swept the doubles and took two of three
singles matches. Chris DiChiara won 6-0, 6-4 at second singles; Kyle Cherry won
6-0, 7-5 at third singles; Sean Durant-Rob Snow won 6-4, 6-3 at first doubles
and Joe Malanaphy-Matt Perry won 6-0, 6-3 at second doubles.
Classical's win came via a 0-6, 6-4, 6-4 win from Larry
Cheung in first singles.
Danvers 5, Classical 0
At Lynn, Danvers' Gabe Ochonski won at first singles, 6-1, 6-2; Matt Arias,
second singles, 6-3, 6-1; Jim Grace, third singles, 6-3, 6-0; Kevin McManus-Mike
Olszak, first doubles, 6-2, 6-3, and Mike DeSantis-Kyle Lally, second doubles,
7-5, 6-2. Claude Jean and David Raymond
played well for the Rams (1-6) at second doubles. Danvers is 6-4, 5-2
Northeastern Conference.
Marblehead 5, Classical 0
"Classical was stronger than what was advertised," Magicians' coach Elizabeth Foukal said. "Larry Cheung returned to their lineup after missing four matches. It strengthened their team down the line."

In the boys match, the Rams
(1-4) won 4-1 with Justin Diamond
defeating Badfril Prihanton, 6-0, 6-0, in
first singles; Seny Ly
defeated Karol Der, 4-6, 6-4, 7-6, in third
singles; Alex Messina-Peter Rondeau
won first doubles, 7-5, 6-3, over Leo Barrios-Serevith Mon, and
Dennis Husidic-David Raymond
defeated Kevin Em-Shivam Patel, 7-5, 6-3.
At second singles, English's Travis Bacon defeated Chris Cole, 6-3, 6-4.
Revere 3, Classical 2
At Classical, the
Patriots swept the singles matches, but the Rams came back to win the doubles. Peter
Rondeau-David Raymond won 6-2, 6-3, at
first doubles and Patrick Strong-Brian
Renderos won 6-2, 6-0, at No. 2.
For Revere, it was Francisco Tartaglia (6-0, 6-0), Malak Mossadek (6-0, 6-1) and
Richard Bonilla (6-0, 6-0).
Peabody
5, Classical 0
At Peabody, Classical's tightest match was second doubles where Dennis
Husidic and David Raymond came up short in
a three set match (1-6, 6-2, 3-6). Peabody winners were Cody Famiglietti, first
singles (6-0, 6-4); Mike Warren, second singles (6-0, 6-0); Vinny McMahan, third
singles (6-2, 6-2); Nico Disalvo and Dimitri Kritikos, first doubles (6-2, 6-1).
Classical is 0-1.
