2010 Memorial Day Assembly
For over 100 years, Classical High School has had a Memorial Day Assembly that included reflections on the men and women who gave the ultimate sacrifice, their lives, for the freedom and democracy we enjoy today. This year's Assembly was meaningful in many ways. Classical students were attentive and involved.
(Were you here today? Can you find yourself.)
The ROTC honor Guard presented the American flag during the Pledge of Allegiance.
Members of the Classical Chorus, with Music Teacher Ms. Weiss accompanying them on piano, sang the National Anthem with real feeling.
Cristian Lopez, Senior Class president, was brilliantly smooth as the Master of Ceremonies today.
Noted Guests included Richard Ford, Councilor of Ward 7, Brendan Crighton, Councilor of Ward 5, Maria Carrasco, member of the School Committee, Representative Steve Walsh, Mike Sweeney from the Department of Veteran's Services, and a representative from the Mayor's Office.
"God Bless America" was sung in three different beautiful versions by Tyler Gioacchini, Ashley Flores, and Juliana Davis, members of the Classical Chorus.
Kingslay Jean-Charles, VP of the Senior Class, spoke eloquently (as usual) about the History of Memorial Day.

with more information about the History of World War Two.
Pantelis Thomadis , President of the National Honor Society , read the famous "Letter to Mrs. Bixby" from President Abraham Lincoln.
Two versions of "Taps" were played by members of the Lynn Public School Band.

Sopheary Chau acknowledged Veteran Mike Sweeney's attendance at the Assembly.
Gabriella Galeazzi, President of the Junior Class, introduced our Honored Guest Speaker Mitchell Ramonas today.
"Our Guest Speaker today is Mitchell Ramonas, a lifetime resident of Lynn. After graduating Classical High School, he joined the Service to fight in World War Two. On March 23rd, 1944, his plane was shot down over Germany. Mr. Ramonas passed out while parachuting down from 25,000 feet. When we woke up he was captured by German soldiers. He was listed a Missing in Action for over six months until the Red Cross informed his family.
While in captivity, Mr. Roach made escape attempts with fellow prisoners. They were only served bread with sawdust in it. By the time the prison camp was liberated, he weighed less than 100 pounds. His courage, strength, and dedication to his country will always be remembered. He is one of our heroes."
Our Honored Veteran and Classical Alumna
Representative Steve Walsh spoke briefly and wished everyone an enjoyable and meaningful Memorial Day .
Principal Constantino stated his appreciation to everyone for their appropriate behavior during this Assembly.
Thanks to all our Speakers today and thanks to Mr. Grealish for coordinating the Assembly with the Senior Class Officers.
